One of the most important parts of a good dental health program is learning how to care for your teeth and gums. When you prevent the onset or progression of periodontal (gum) disease and tooth decay, your teeth should stay healthy and useful for your lifetime. Periodontal infections may significantly impact your overall health. It may serve as risk indicators for certain systemic diseases or conditions such as coronary (heart) disease and diabetes. Current research indicates that genetics, tobacco usage, elevated stress, inadequate diet and xerostomia (dry mouth) also play a role in the etiology of periodontal disease.
During your dental visit, our Registered Dental Hygienist will perform the following services:
-Review Medical History
-Blood Pressure Screening
-Necessary Digital X-Rays
-Oral Cancer Screening
-Periodontal Screening (Measuring Pocket Depths)
-Prophylaxis (cleaning) or
-Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy
-Plaque Control Instructions
-Sealants
-Fluoride Treatment
Dr. McAllister will then perform a comprehensive oral exam, looking for any signs or changes that could indicate possible problems. This exam will include a hard and soft tissue evaluation, cavity detection and screening patients for the potential need for
-Orthodontics: Adult and Child
-Occlusal guard (TMJ jaw problems/clenching or grinding)
-Athletic mouth guards for our active children and adults
-Snore Guards
Once the exam is complete, we will explain every recommended procedure thoroughly, discuss treatment options and answer any questions you may have.
